Fred's Phonograms

Grades K–2
Most Frequent and Common Phonograms

Research-based, explicit instruction using phonogram patterns to support and encourage early reading

Fred's Phonograms student books use a whole-to-part phonics approach to introduce phonograms in a story context. The 50 titles feature common word patterns—in stories!

Phonograms support early readers with decodable patterns that provide a comfortable entry point to print. The phonograms featured are from the Most Frequent Phonogram list (Wylie & Durrell, 1970) and the Most Common Phonogram list (Fry, 1998).
